You are absolutely right that telecommuting is perfect for the small company. In my opinion it is much easier to manage and communicate with telecommuters and give the company greater benefits. As telecommuting becomes more and more prevalent with great new technologies, it is important to keep a few htings in mind-great manage, trust, and communication (practically synonyms). I have been telecommuting for a few months, and these are definitely the keys to success.
We actually have been working with a wonderful free video chat tool called ooVoo which has great quality and allows 6 person video conference calls on a cute easy to use platform. It also has IMing, texting, chatting, and video email so you can get all your communication needs in one place. Utilized efficiently, colleagues can get to know one another, brainstorm, and most of all TRUST in each other.
